We are a group of clinical and basic researchers whose main interest is the study and research of physiology, as well as the clinical application of non-invasive techniques of neuromodulation of the nervous system. In addition, we perform functional evaluations of the central and peripheral nervous system in neurological disorders, such as spinal cord injury. All this with the ultimate goal of translation to a clinical setting. The laboratory has all the necessary equipment to carry out these approaches.

Research lines
- Physiological evaluation and development of NIBS techniques, performing non-invasive stimulation of the cerebral cortex by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial static magnetic field stimulation (tSMS).
- Study by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging.
- Application of neuromodulation techniques (tDCS, rTMS, tSMS) in neurodegenerative pathologies, chronic pain, spinal cord injury, migraines and fatigue.
- Study of clinical and neurophysiological aspects of spinal cord injury in humans.
- Development of assessment protocols for patients with spinal cord injury.
- Clinical trials on patients with spinal cord injury or patients with drug-resistant chronic pain.
- Study of the neurophysiological mechanisms involved in central fatigue (in healthy volunteers, in patients with spinal cord injury and in patients with multiple sclerosis).
- Treatment of central fatigue in spinal cord injury using cannabinoid receptor antagonists/inverse agonists. Carried out in collaboration with the Molecular Neuroprotection Group (GNPM) of the HNP. This project is financed through an agreement with the company Samos Medical Enterprise S.L.U.
- Clinical trials in spinal cord injured patients with fatigue.
